Introduction

Gone are the days where learning, communicating and socializing can only be done through face-to-face interaction. Technology has evolved throughout the years, and we are living in the 21st Century in a digital world where it is seen as a basic knowledge for everyone. If you’re not tech-savvy, you will be deemed as “out-dated”.

Today in my post, I will be elaborating on the concepts of “Digital Resident” and “Digital Visitor”.

Digital Residents are people who are more expansive and open on the Web. They practically live their lives online where their social media profiles expresses their identity extensively. They see it as a place where they can freely share their thoughts and views with others.

Here’s an example of a digital resident. Zoella is a famous British Youtuber with 12 million subscribers, who also has a strong online profile with a few million followers on  Twitter and Instagram where viewers know her day-to-day lifestyle and happenings.

Digital Visitors are people who browse through the Web with a purpose, they have a defined task to complete. Visitors don’t really have an online presence as they tend to be more conservative with their lives, not wanting many people to know much about them.

Personally, I would consider myself as a Digital Resident as I am constantly on the phone and scrolling through social media and connecting with my friends whenever I am free just sharing what we see online with each other which can be rather toxic as it takes up a lot of time my day!

Being on the extreme ends of both spectrum of a Resident and Visitor may not be the best, so it is best that you strike a balance and learn to differentiate professional and personal purposes in order to achieve the most out of the Web!
